Now known as Envision, this program is dedicated to exposing qualified, passionate students to their fields of interest at some of the nation's premier universities. I joined the Medicine program at Johns Hopkins University for ten days during the summer before 11th grade. I was able to live on campus in a dorm room, and I learned the basics of a multitude of medical careers. I joined a simulated epidemiological case study, used training equipment normally reserved for Hopkins medical students, listened to lectures on neurotechnology, pharmacy, and much more, and I was able to interact with a trained actor in a simulated patient encounter at Johns Hopkins Hospital (normally done by their fourth year students).
Here at Hopkins, I met friends who continue to inspire me, I solidified my passion for medicine, and I found new opportunity to speak with doctors, researchers, medical students, and more. At the University of Maryland Trauma Center, I decided to become an EMT after talking to many about their work. I also found a new love for neurotechnology, neurobiology, and neuroscience after compelling lectures by Dr. James Giordano and decided to pursue and perhaps research on it in college. It was where my unformed, burning desire to pursue medicine began to take real form, and I am grateful for that experience.
